Great Lakes Terrestrial Invasive Species Committee formed July 2006

Priority matrices for agencies (FS, NPS, USDA-NRCS, EPA) were compared to 45 listed action items in the Great Lakes Terrestrial Invasive Species Action Plan. 20 actions with agency overlap were identified as top priority. Committee members selected individual actions based on current responsibilities and home agency needs.

Leadership and Coordination: Phyllis provides a liaison between the GL-TISC and the Great Lakes Regional Working Group, on which she represents the NPS Midwest Region.

Prevention: Jan is identifying sources of non-native invasive free products (e.g., Weed Free Mulch & Forage) and is looking for agency commitment for use on public lands and federally funded/ permitted projects.

Control and Management: Brian and Kelly are working to streamline the NEPA process through the development of categorical exclusions that allow for rapid response in control of emerging populations.

Restoration: Barb is compiling information and sources for native material as well as developing language for use in restoration contracts and grants.

Education and Public Awareness: June is working to identify existing educational materials and make available for agency use. She is also creating a poster display for the MNRG GL-TISC.

Education and Public Awareness: Carmen is developing an "awareness" handout suitable for all agencies that identify actions needed by all employees to reduce the threat of invasive species.

Cooperation: Doug is promoting the MNRG efforts though his contacts in the D.C. area, he is also championing the efforts of the GL-TISC during the National Invasive Weed Awareness Week (Feb, 2007)

Prevention: Steve is working to adopt, adapt and develop photosanitary standards for use in purchasing and contracting.
